Dutch, he gained his diploma cum laude at the School of the Arts Arnhem in 1988. He is currently an independent designer. His studio is in Amsterdam and he handles product, architecture and interiors for the most prestigious international companies: B&B Italia, Bisazza, Boffi, Cappellini, Cassina, Droog Design, Flos, Kartell, Mandarina Duck, Moroso Poliform and Vitra.
He is also founder, art director and co-owner of Mooi. Founded in 2000, Moooi has grown into an internationally renowned design label. Wanders has recently turned his attention to consumer home appliances for the global market.
He collaborates with Vitra in Summer Workshops and is one of the leading figures of Droog Design. He is a member of international prize juries (Rotterdam Design Prize, Kho Liang Ie prize). He has given important lectures at the SFMoMA, Limn, at the
Design Academy, Nike, IDFA and FutureDesignDays and has taught at various Dutch and international design academies. His pieces are part of fundamental collections such as the Museum of Modern Art in New York and in San Francisco, the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, the Central Museum in Utrecht, Museum of Decorative Arts Copenhagen and the Museum Boijmans van Beuningen in Rotterdam. They have also appeared in numerous Droog Design exhibitions.
Marcel was the editor of the International Design Yearbook 2005. In the same year together with chef Peter Lute he created the new and extraordinary LUTE SUITES hospitality-concept, the first "all over city suites" hotel in the world. In September 'Blits' opened its doors, a new restaurant in Rotterdam for which Marcel designed the interior. He also designed the public areas of the Hotel on Rivington in New York.
He also was recently awarded the 2007 Visionary! Award by the Museum of Art and Design in New York.
In 2001, for the Boffi bathroom collection, he designed the Gobi bathtub and washbasin, the Pipe shower and the Walll shelves.
