The art of cooking outdoors
It is a minimalist kitchen consisting in an open-faced structure, specifically engineered for external use. The designer Piero Lissoni declared “Open is not a kitchen, it’s much more. It’s a machine, for preparing dinner, having a drink, listening to music, chatting with friends, cooking a meal or enjoying a good dish. The bodywork of this machine is in brushed stainless steel, natural woods and industrial-grade glass.”
Aesthetics and functionality meet innovation
The heart of Open is the AISI 316 stainless steel monobloc for cooking and washing. At the center of the composition there is a removable chopping board in solid Iroko wood and two drawers underneath. The block is supported by a tubular steel structure with a transparent wired glass shelf. The set is completed with a trolley on wheels to be placed under the sink, with a matt satin stainless steel structure, composed of 3 upper and 7 lower compartments in solid Iroko wood.
Everything is designed for hospitality: the proportions, the materials and the style of Open are its informal part, while the reliability of a professional machine alludes to the formal rigor.
A kitchen born for the outdoor
The cooking and washing block can be combined with a large snack counter in solid Iroko, supported by a tubular steel structure equipped with two lower shelves in wired glass.
Technical Details

Wood layers, with support made of strip wood. Boffi uses only wood from not primary forests, to guarantee an adequate restoration of the renewable raw materials. Doors and panels have vertical grain. The “old“ grey pinewood consists of pinewood solid boards recycled from renovation of old houses, barns and huts. The characteristic grey tone of this material is obtained by specific painting cycles, which give the typical “old” aspect to this wood. Possible cracks and deformations have to be considered characteristic part of the product. Since these pieces are very unique, they have the typical appeal of “imperfect things“ and they clearly display sign of times and bad weather; therefore they show deformations and wrinkles strength. Worktops obtained with old wooden boards offer a clear example of the wood vitality and instability. For this reasons each piece in solid wood has to be considered considered “unique“ and different from all the other ones.
